IRS contribution limits for 2009 — For 2009, the IRS permits you to contribute up to $16,500 in tax-deferred money to the TSP.  If you are a member of the uniformed services, you may contribute a total of $49,000 in tax-deferred and tax-exempt money.  If you will be age 50 or older during 2009, you may also contribute up to $5,500 in additional “catch-up” contributions if your regular contributions for the year reach the $16,500 limit.

Third quarter 2008 participant statements — Your third quarter TSP participant statement, which covers the period from July 1 through September 30, 2008, is now available on this Web site.  To be notified whenever new participant statements are added to the TSP Web site, you can sign up at “Get E-mail Updates” on the Home page.

Opting out of mailed annual statements — Annual TSP participant statements will be posted on this Web site early next year.  If you do not want to also receive your statement in the mail, let us know through Account Access or the Account Menu of the ThriftLine.  Even if you opt out of receiving a mailed statement, we will still mail you an annual letter from the Executive Director of the TSP, along with a copy of the January 2009 TSP Highlights.

Online loan payments — If using an online banking service to make a TSP loan payment, make sure your TSP account number and your loan number are included on the check, or the check will be returned to the issuer.  Also, be sure that your online banking service has your current address.

Monthly payments schedule change — Beginning last month, the TSP stopped distributing monthly payments on the first, second, or third day of the month.  Monthly payments previously distributed on those days are now distributed on the fourth day of the month.  If that day falls on a holiday or weekend, the payment will be made on the previous business day.  Participants affected by this change were notified in July.
